Description
Introduction that I wrote about Corina Corina in 2019: Corina Corina, an electro-R&B singer & rapper from Berkeley, California. I got put onto her 7 years years ago, when I reviewed her R&B album The Eargasm, & I’ve been a fan of her sweet vocals ever since. While her music was always a blend between R&B, soul, & hip hop… it wasn’t until 2017, when she dropped her Run The Blues mixtape (a tribute to Run The Jewels), that I found out she could rap, too. 🎙️ Check out songs “RTB” & “Disappointment” on that project to hear her flex. Whether singing or spitting, she doesn’t shy away from writing with her heart on her sleeve by putting her all-too-personal past on display, discussing mental health, & being honest with her emotions. Her bars are quick-paced, clear, & delivered with passion, usually over grungy hip hop beats, while she pens songs that dive into dealing with ex-lovers, lost loves, being a bartender, the highs/lows of touring, mental health, sexual harassment, abortion, & more. She just formed a duo with Dan Dillinger, called I.S.K.B. (acronym for I Should’ve Known Better). They released their first rap single, titled “Script$”, which explores her history with antidepressants to cope with chronic depression, ADD, & OCD. Corina has always been a mental health activist (in her music, writing various articles on her recovery from anorexia [congrats on 15 years!], & in her community), & now she’s taking that a step further by starting a Masters program in Psychology. She also hosts a Journaling & Meditation Workshop teaching meditation techniques to prepare your mind & body for writing, as well as easing anxiety. She makes really good, moving music (R&B & now hip hop), is easy to talk to + relate to, & is inspiring in many ways. I had to draw her. Check her out at @corinaseligman_!
